Web for beginners: search engines |
|
| SEARCH ENGINES | |
| Who tells the world that you're there and how to find you?. That's the other half of the apple: now that I have my site and I like the way it looks, how do I spread the news and make it known around? Spam is not the way. The elective way is telling the search engines about it. In order for a search engine to find your site among the first ones (nobody is interested in being mentioned last), all pages of the site should contain some special words (the metatags) that enable the engine to signal it to interested people only. Moreover, some small tricks are needed in order to overcome some individual idiosyncrasies the most important of them exibit. It's a rather exacting and boring job, worth committing to an expert; mostly as the identification criteria keep evolving and change for each engine, and it isn't the case to mess up this. |
